Thanks to everyone who attended the workshop this Wednesday! It was a great turnout and we received many good questions about the e-commerce and the functions offered. While I may not have had the chance to answer all your questions, here’s a few that stood out:

Q: How do I keep my current website on its domain and use it for my Shopify store as well?

A: There are a few ways to do this. First option, if your domain provider offers you subdomains, you can create one (for example “shop.yourdomain.com”). Then link that to your Shopify store
so it can co-exist with your existing website. The second option would be to direct the shopify store to a subfolder, such as “www.yourdomain.com/store/”. You can find out more here: https://docs.shopify.com/manual/domains/use-your-own-domain

Q: How do I create a special shipping rate for a certain category of products only?

A: If it’s out of the box, you can’t. However you can try exploring this paid app: https://apps.shopify.com/advanced-shipping-manager-for-shopify . It offers very customisable options for shipping, such as blocking certain shipping type for specific products.

Q: Can I send my customers a note on when they should expect the delivery?

A: To send a generic note on delivery times such as, “You’ll be receiving your order withing 3 working days” for all your orders, you can edit the email notification for “new Order” by clicking settings – > notifications.

If you want to customise the message for each order such as, “you will receive your order between 10am and 12pm this Wednesday”, go to the “Orders” page, click on the customer name next to their order. Then click their email address on their customer profile. A popup will appear to send them a message.

There are many concerns were related to reduction of your overheads spent on staff and labour, and a lot of these concerns can be solved with the right automation tools and software. Aside from the Shopify Apps that I recommended at the workshop, you could also have a look at:

Back In Stock: Allow customers to sign up for an alert when an out-of-stock product becomes available again. – https://apps.shopify.com/back-in-stock

Stock Sync: If you are currently using a warehousing solution and they have an electronic WMS, you can syncronise your store’s stock with your warehouse.  https://apps.shopify.com/cloudcoder-shopify

Promo Bar: A completely free app that allows a bar to appear at the top of your page to announce special promotions. – https://apps.shopify.com/promo-bar

Better Coupon Box: Program coupon rewards to appear and grant them in exchange for actions like following your Facebook page. – https://apps.shopify.com/better-coupon-box

If you’ve got any more questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments and we’ll try to answer them. Once again it’s good to see you all and we’re looking forward to the next one!
